BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Introduction: 2007 marks the second Military and Aerospace Electronics Conference and Exhibition. Held against a background of increasing crossover between the demands for development of electronics within both the land-based and aerospace vehicles, it was well received by the audience who attended the inaugural event. The 2007 event is supported by Ultra Electronics, The Vetronics Research Centre, Sussex University and leading industry associations SAE UK and MIRA.

Chaired by Dr Elias Stipidis, Director of the Vetronics Research Centre, MAE2007 will seek to progress the discussion, whilst also examining the latest innovations and the opportunities these open up for the future. Once again it will present leading research and practical analysis of the issues faced by technical directors, electronics engineers and designers as they predict and fulfil the needs of their customers. There will be three presentation tracks running concurrently during the event, covering Military Aerospace, Land Systems and the future of both.

All submitted papers will be judged by our panel of leading experts. Dr Stipidis will be joined by leading avionic systems consultant Malcolm Jukes and Tony White, Chief Software and Systems Engineer at Ultra Electronics Electrics Division.

We would welcome presentations from research and design engineers, academic institutions, research organisations, industry/trade and lobbying bodies, technology and service providers, policy makers and government to explore the following themes within the land and air systems application environments:

» Land systems Open standards, processes, verification and validation, interoperability, methodologies and modularity, etc
» Vehicle Electronics
(i.e. vetronics and avionics):
x-by-wire, safety critical sub-systems, interoperability,
architectures, testbeds etc
» Vehicle Managements: Diagnostics, HUMS, Reconfiguration and Adaptation, power etc
» User/Crew station: Multimedia, Human factors, Security, Command and Control etc
» Wireless Communications: NEC, ad hoc networking, security, software defined radio - SDR, wireless sensors etc
» Platform: embedded networking, sensors, Situation Awareness, DAS – Defence Aid Suites, autonomous/semi-autonomous vehicles, concepts, human factors, interfaces, security etc.

Papers should take into account that all the above can have implications on Through Life Support (TLS), Survivability and affordability.

GUIDELINES FOR ABSTRACTS

Note: at this stage abstract details should contain no more than 250 words.

Where applicable, presentations should address:

  • Issues that affect a particular aspect of military and/or aerospace electronics and their application
  • Case Studies especially lessons learned AND not learned
  • Solutions both proven and potential, to the issues faced in any area where electronics systems are utilised within land-based and/or aerospace applications

SELECTION CRITERIA

The Program Committee will review all presentations - selection will be based on the following criteria:

  • Topic & relevance to the conference theme and delegate base
  • Focus on future trends and lessons learned (what worked AND what didn't) and recommended solutions to common issues
  • Speaker's expertise, knowledge and ability to challenge delegates
  • Presentation experience of speaker
  • Research findings are welcome, provided the session is aimed at practitioners and balanced with sufficient practical information (i.e. 'here's how this can be applied to .....')
  • Absence of commercial sales content for services or products
